LI Hiuwa “Stable Vertigo”

In the absence of a fixed point of focus, vision refuses to stabilize, and perception is continually displaced in search of provisional anchors. The body operates as a shifting axis, swaying in relation to its surroundings, through which established images and structures of understanding begin to unravel.

“Stable Vertigo”, presented as part of this year’s MFA graduate exhibition, brings together Li Hiuwa’s recent works across photography, video, and installation. Grounded in the condition of defocus, the project examines the disjunction between vision and the body. Here, vertigo emerges not merely as a sensory disturbance, but as a perceptual condition produced through misalignment and drift. Stability is reconfigured as a contingent state —one that is continuously negotiated through adjustment, oscillation, and deviation.

KONG Chun Hei “Hidden Squander”

The operational mechanisms of objects shape the prevailing formats of life. As we contend with them, our individual behaviors and gestures are gradually encoded into a cognition that conforms to social norms. These ubiquitous assurances, championing convenience and efficiency, are like a gift; any application that is either excessive or insufficient is considered a squander.

In this year’s MFA Graduation Exhibition, “Hidden Squander,” Kong extends this line of thought, hovering between qualities such as danger/safety, defense/probing, and strong/weak. By nullifying or amplifying the original functions of objects, he reveals the redundancy and stutter in their operation. He explores the interplay between the continuity of the system and the practice of the individual, envisioning how one might perceive the possibility of a latent disorder within an encoded world.
