Gaze Upon the Vast Universe

1672 years ago, Wang Xizhi wrote “The Preface of Orchid Pavilion”, which was a preface wrote at a poets’ gathering, composing and collecting poems.  Contemplating on how in spite of life’s great moment of birth and death, one is inspired by the past; and this very present, can inspire the future through the article.  Three years ago, while gazing down at earth from the International Space Station, Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, echoed Wang Xizhi’s wisdom, stating, “Gaze upon the vast universe and its diverse wonders; such a delight to open up oneself, and enjoy the pleasure of sight and sound to the greatest extend.” As Ch’ien Mu, the founder of New Asia College and the Fine Arts Specialized Training Programme (the predecessor of the Department of Fine Arts), reminded us the pursuit of knowledge must be matched by the cultivation of character. Embracing such belief, 21 of us are eager to embark on our journey of exploration.  This July 2025 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, we would like to share our fruits of our year-long studies in the Department of Fine Arts in a poetic manner.  Together, we shall all behold the great literacy thought’s, gaze upon the vast universe and dive into meaningful dialogues and intertwine our thoughts.
